Almost everything in this PVD coating gallery started as plain stainless steel. The colour is not paint and it is not plating. It is a metal layer a few microns thick, bonded to the surface inside a vacuum chamber, which is why these pieces still look the way they did on the day they were installed.
Most of what we coat falls into four groups: partitions and screens that divide a space, railings and balustrades that get touched every day, furniture frames where the finish has to survive assembly, and architectural detail such as trims, panels and hardware.
Laser cut screens and room dividers, usually in gold or champagne gold. Thin coating keeps the cut detail sharp, which matters when the pattern is the whole point of the piece.
Handrails take more contact than anything else in a building. This is where the difference between PVD and electroplating shows up first, usually within a year.
Table bases, chair frames and console legs, coated before assembly. Rose gold and brass are the common requests here.
Trims, wall panels, lift interiors, signage and hardware. Small parts in volume, where colour has to match across a whole batch.
Within a batch, yes. Across batches run months apart there can be a slight shift, which is why we ask for the whole quantity up front where a project needs it. If a job is phased, tell us at the enquiry stage and we will keep a reference piece.
PVD is hard, but it is not indestructible against a screwdriver or a site trolley. We supply pieces with protective film where the client asks, and it is worth leaving that film on until the last possible moment.
It has to come to the chamber, so the piece has to be removable. We cannot coat anything in place. Railings and screens are usually straightforward, fixed panels less so.
Warm water and a soft cloth. No abrasives, no scouring pads and nothing solvent based. The coating will outlast the fitting if it is cleaned the way you would clean a good watch.
